Inflight Decision Making

Use ADMT to train the decision making techniques and competencies we need in the air.

Cruise
With a given problem – what are our first actions? Do we call Mayday, Pan pan, or keep quiet? Should we prepare the cabin for an emergency landing? Is a diversion a good idea, and if so, where do we go?

Approach
Should we continue or go-around when that malfunction or deviation comes up on short final? And how do we factor in weather and fuel?

Situations like these challenge our judgement. How well are we prepared?

ADMT can create complex weather patterns with a few clicks, or present actual historic weather data. We can sharpen our skills by looking into realistic weather scenarios.

What is to be done, and in what order? If the task is complex, sequential problem solving may not be enough. Practice key competencies like workload management and setting of priorities.

Whichever acronym you prefer – ADMT allows you to apply and improve structured decision making.

Many approach and landing incidents and accidents do not arise from lack of piloting technique, but from poor decision making.
